2009 GF5 Tournament Round 1: iTunes vs. Beck
by E. Christopher Clark | Thursday, March 26, 2009
I don’t think you have to be an Apple fanboy/girl or even an iTunes user to agree with this statement: iTunes changed the face of music distribution forever. Apple got nearly everything right with iTunes, and it shows in their market-share. Every other online music store is, in some way, trying to emulate them. So, if we’re voting on who/what has had the biggest impact on the game, we’ve got to vote iTunes, right?
But what if you’re a Beck fan? I know there are tons of people out there who think the guy is a genius and who probably believe that he revolutionized the music industry with his weird blend of styles, paving the way for many of the more interesting acts we have today.
I don’t know who wins this one. Help me figure it out. Vote now!

“Beck is the closest thing white people have to compare to Prince”
That says it all, really. :-)

I was at Newbury Comics in Boston when I first heard Loser playing on FNX. They had the single for sale at the front counter and I was like “Beck? Wow, Jeff Beck is back big time!” I loved the single but little did I know this dude was a “genius”. Beck is the closest thing white people have to compare to Prince. He is that eccentric, talented, funky and at times, uneven. In fact I would like to see that collaboration. Seriously.
