E. Christopher Clark says:
The Cure puts on epic concerts, and they produce the perfect music for when you’re in a Cure mood, but they’re pretty much a two-trick pony—the poppier stuff like “Friday I’m in Love” and the darker stuff you find on Disintegration and the like.
U2, by contrast, sort of runs the gamut of popular music. They have a song for every occasion, for every mood. At least I think so.

Jeremy Couturier says:
I think U2 gets the nod simply for staying power and really are they not the biggest band in the world? They ARE venturing into Rolling Stones territory but they are still relevant and are doing important things outside of music. Plus I love the South Park version of Bono “Hello! Hello!” The Cure on the other hand? Three words: Hampton Beach Casino
