A Perfectly Stormy Commercial Break

by E. Christopher Clark | Tuesday, November 3, 2009

I’m going to have to concur with Kottke on this one: This cut to commercial that took place during a recent showing of The Perfect Storm has to be among the worst ever. It isn’t Heidi game bad, but it’s pretty close. As Kottke points out, the commercial break begins in the middle of the most climactic moment of the film, not at any sort of natural breaking point, but right smack-dab in the middle of the moment that seals the fate of the Andrea Gail.

I did see The Perfect Storm on TV not that long ago, but it was on MyTV and not The Weather Channel, and they didn’t make this same mistake. Which is really weird. Because, with a name like MyTV, you kind of expect that network to be a little half-assed. But The Weather Channel? C’mon, man! You guys are all about the Goddamned weather. How do you get this so wrong?
