Are Wii Really Getting Fit?
by E. Christopher Clark | Monday, February 9, 2009

The Wii Fit is an absolute phenomenon. Google it or Twitter-Search it if you don’t believe me. I mean, there’s even a Wii Fit blog. And yeah, I get the idea: what better way to lose weight than to do it by playing a video game? This girl very famously decided to give it a try, and my old Viddler acquaintance Brandice has been broadcasting her workouts live on Qik, but here’s the real question: Is anyone going to stick with it, or will the Wii Fit, like every other diet or exercise fad in America, fade away even faster than it arrived on the scene. According to this article from WiiFit.net, “Nintendo’s exercise game Wii Fit is flying off the store shelves, only to collect dust on home shelves. Not many are actually using it after a few weeks.” Gamespot warned that the game would not be “as smooth and fun a workout as you’d probably like”, so perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised.
