Geek Force Five - Geeking out about comics, television, movies, music, and video games

Lost’s 2008 Schedule

by E. Christopher Clark | Wednesday, February 27, 2008

DarkUFO reports that in the latest “Ask Ausiello” column from TV Guide‘s Michael Ausiello, the beans have been spilled about when the remaining episodes of Lost‘s fourth season will air.

Here’s the scoop:

Episode 5: Feb. 28
Episode 6: March 6
Episode 7: March 13
Episode 8: March 20
Episode 9: April 24
Episode 10: May 1
Episode 11: May 8
Episode 12: May 15
Episode 13: May 22 (season finale)

So, there’s a month-long break between episodes eight and nine. But that’s really not so bad when you consider that, just a few weeks ago, when the writer’s strike was still on, there was a distinct possibility that episode eight would be the last episode of the season, and that we’d be waiting until 2009 to hear from our favorite castaways once again.

So, this site has really forced me to confront my own geekiness, and though there is little overlap between us, we can totally agree on the awesomeness that is LOST. In true geek fashion, I am counting down the minutes between now and tonight’s episode. I would love a post from you at some point about why you chose Hurley to be the representative for LOST. I heart Hurley, don’t get me wrong (his “you totally Scooby-Doo’d me” earned major points last week), but why did he speak to you more than the others? (And by others, I just mean others, not THE OTHERS. :) )

What did you think of the episode? I was very nervous about it going in—I always feel nervous about Desmond-centric episodes—but it really delivered, as far as I was concerned.

As for why I picked Hurley… well, he’s the geekiest of the bunch and, with my body image and self-confidence problems, he’s the one I identify the most with. I definitely plan to write about that a bit more, but we’re off to Maine within the hour, and I’ve got to get prepped for that. I’d hoped to get a thread up for last night’s episode before I left, but I think this thread just might have to serve that purpose.

It was definitely a more sci-fi type of episode than previous ones. I’m not sure how I feel about that, I kind of missed the other characters and a more-character focused narrative in general. I’m intrigued though. I wonder if all this time shifting has a connection to why children can’t be born on the island. Oh, and I finally made the connection of Desmond to Odysseus, who wanders the earth while Penelope waits for him.

ChrisClark says:

I still hadn’t made that connection. Good catch!

My theory is that the island is some sort of real-world Garden of Eden (maybe even the basis for the Garden that appears in the Bible). Life isn’t supposed to be created there, except by God. Or something like that. My brain isn’t working quite right, because Nine Inch Nails released a new record on the Internet and I can’t listen to it because the server gods are frowning on me.

Anyway, I dig Desmond’s storyline, and the sci-fi/time-travel angle, but I’m definitely with you: I missed the other characters.

I’m guessing this week’s episode will bring everyone else back into the fold.

Sara says:

Very thought provoking! I guess that begs the question: in this sort of somewhat twisted Eden (though I guess the original one was too), who’s pulling the strings?

ChrisClark says:

Good question! I don’t know. Ben’s pulling a lot of strings himself, but my guess would have to be Jacob. Or, as Locke would say, the island itself.

Can’t wait for tomorrow. Maybe I’ll start live-blogging the episodes as they air on Thursday nights (though I’d have to abandon that once they start airing at 10 p.m. after Grey’s Anatomy comes back and bumps the show an hour… 10 is too late for me).

Sara says:

But, if you live blog, won’t you not be able to fully concentrate on the show? You have to keep your wits about you. These are troubled times, my friend. :P

ChrisClark says:

You were totally right. I didn’t live-blog, and I’m glad I didn’t. There’s too much going on with that show to live-blog it.

But I might be doing a kind of dueling analyses thing with one of my fellow vloggers at Viddler.com. More on that soon.
