March Madness, Geek Force Five Style
Every year in March, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) holds tournaments to decide the national champions in both men’s and women’s basketball. This year, Geek Force Five, in association with the entirely fictional (for now) National Collegial Geekery Association (NCGA), is proud to announce the 1st Annual Geek Force Five Tournament. And you, my friends, are going to help us select the participants.
Here’s how it’s going to work. We’re going to scour the Internet over the next few days to determine the top 16 obsessions in four categories—Movies/TV, Games/Tech, Comics, and Music—and, while we’re doing that, you’re going to submit your picks via the GeekOut box in the sidebar of GeekForceFive.com. At some point early next week, once we’ve tallied all of the votes, we’re going to fill in the big bracket you see here. And then, our obsessions do battle!
For each matchup, we’ll create a page where you can vote to determine the winner. The winner of each matchup moves on to the next round, and so on, and so forth, until we’ve crowned our champion.
Make sense? Good! Let’s go. If you have questions (or if you want to tell me what a genius I am for thinking this up), drop ‘em in the comments.

You’re a genius. Brilliant. They should apply this idea to College Basketball. Seriously, It’s that good. :)

Questions:
Movies & TV: Do you want eight of each?
Comics: Do you want: Titles, Characters, Storylines? Any/All of the Above?
Game & Tech: Any kind of game or only electronic?
Music: Do you want: Bands, Albums? Either?

For that matter, what about comic masters/creators? Will Eisner, Scott McCloud, Jim Lee, Claremont, Bendis, Leob, Sale?
E. Christopher Clark says:
@Bethany - Thanks! I’m glad that everyone is acknowledging this.
@UnclePhil - Awesome suggestions. Many of those may end up on the list.
@Brendan - I think any/all of the above is the right answer for each of these things. In comics for example, I think that the X-Men as a franchise/concept could stand toe-to-toe with Claremont as a creator. I think there are people who are equally obsessed with both.
In Movies/TV, I think we could end up with a powerhouse creator like J.J. Abrams, whose done a bunch of things, squaring off against a Whedon, or even, eventually against one of his own shows like LOST.
The idea, as I imagine it, is something so awesome and ridiculous that we all have a blast reading it for a couple weeks. That’s my only goal: that people have fun.
