Nintendo’s Game Boy is 20 Years Old

Nintendo's original Game Boy handheld gaming device

It’s hard to believe that it’s been twenty years now since my brother and I got a Nintendo Game Boy to share. Ars Technica has six reasons why Game Boy is one of the most successful gaming consoles of all time. But, for me, as Kottke jokes, it was all about Tetris. I know that we had other games—a Mario and a Castlevania game, if I remember correctly—but Tetris was where it was at. I played that game incessantly. And I play it still: Tris, a free version of the popular block-stacking game, is probably the app I use the most on my iPhone, outside of TwitterFon.

How about the rest of you, out there in Geek Force Land? Did you ever have a Game Boy? What games did you get addicted to? And do you still know where your Game Boy is today?
