Papa John Reunited With His Camaro

by E. Christopher Clark | Wednesday, August 26, 2009

John Schnatter, founder of Papa John's, is reunited with his 1971 Camaro

This is an awesome story.

In 1983, John Schnatter, the man who would found Papa John’s Pizza, sold his 1971 Camaro for $2,800 in order to help keep his father’s tavern afloat. Twenty-six years ago, the dude has been reunited with the car he loved. He paid $250,000 to get it back after using a blog to help track the vehicle down.

Any of you out there have something you lost long ago that you would pay anything to have back? A car? A comic book? A toy? Let us know.

I’d love to get all my old Marvel Roleplaying books back.  To share them with my boys when they’re older if nothing else.

Oh, man, so would I… And for the same reasons. I don’t know what happened to mine, and I’m so sad. That was an awesomely simple role-playing game, wasn’t it? Well, it was awesome, if nothing else.

I lost my RIFTS book once upon a time, too. That was in college. At least I know where it went, which makes it somewhat less painful.

I used to have two 14 gallon rubbermaid bins filled with Legos. They ended up getting lost somehow when I moved 12 years ago. I would love to get those back.

I actually got back what I was looking for, albeit not the exact issue. There was an old issue of Punisher that my gram bought me when I was a little kid visiting my disabled brother at Dartmouth. It was one of the two dozen or so surgeries he’s had.

Sorry, getting sidetracked. It was the first comic I ever read and I always lamented not being able to remember the issue number, but knowing what it looked like and contained for a story. Later, at a comic con, I found it for about $2. Best $2 I ever spent.

@Garen - ...and they don’t make Legos like they used to, do they? It seems like all of the new ones I see are impossibly complex and serve very specific uses (that is, you can’t really invent your own shit with them anymore).

@Shawn - That’s a great story. Thanks for sharing. Only part I wonder about is: Your gram bought you an issue of PUNISHER? That’s a pretty hip grandma.
