Saved by Lisa Turtle and Screech Powers
by E. Christopher Clark | Friday, April 10, 2009

To be honest, the only thing I remember about the Lisa Turtle character from Saved by the Bell is that she was mean to Screech. Did she do anything else besides berate the boy for his crush? As I’ve said before, I never identified with Mr. Samuel Powers all that much, but I did feel for the kid when it came to the whole Lisa situation. He and I had that in common, at least: being shot down by the girl (or girls) that we liked on a regular basis.
What else to say about these two… I really enjoyed seeing Screech away from Lisa and away from the screechy voice when it came time for The College Years. His character was one of the reasons I wish that that series had lasted longer than it did. Maybe then Dustin wouldn’t have ended up on The New Class playing, yet again, the cartoon version of his character.
As for Lark, I don’t really know what she did after Bell went off the air, and I don’t really care. I am heartened that she was the first person after Dennis Haskins to agree to Jimmy Fallon’s proposed Saved by the Bell reunion, but she’ll always be mean old Lisa to me.

I have heard about Mr. Belding being kind of sketchy nowadays. Same thing with Screech. I just try to put those images out of my head.
Can’t remember about Lisa and Zack. I wouldn’t be surprised. Zack kissed everyone, didn’t he?
Jeremy Couturier says:
I heard Lark is invloved in religion somehow and didn’t act after the show.Which would explain why her and Dennis would want a reunion (they need the money).
E. Christopher Clark says:
Then again, wouldn’t that explain why maybe Lark and the apparently dirty old man wouldn’t want to share the stage with one another?
Victoria says:
Wow! Talk about being harsh! What did Lark Voorhies ever do to you?
E. Christopher Clark says:
She didn’t do anything except portray a mean girl particularly well. And, since I first experienced her and her character as a child, when making a distinction between actor and character wasn’t all that important to me, she remains forever attached to her character in my mind.
I’m sure she’s a perfectly nice person. I’m just describing what I think of when I think of her. If Lark actually cares what one dude with a Website thinks, I’d be very surprised.

Lark and Mark-Paul dated in real life for a few years.

My cousin was out at a bar in the town where she went to college (in New York’s Southern Tier) and, randomly, Mr. Belding was there. He was skeevy and hitting on all the much, much younger ladies. Ew!
Didn’t Lisa and Zack share a kiss at one point?
