Geek Force FiveCast 013 (Video)

Sunday, May 11, 2008

I attended the inaugural meeting of New Hampshire Media Makers on Sunday, May 11. This is me geeking out about that. Links to many of the cool people I met can be found in the video, or else at the various blogs that have covered the event: 1, 2, and 3. Roger Goun took photos (as did several others), and his photos can be found here.

It’s so true! I’m still buzzing from the event. It was really great to not only meet new people in the area, but to actually meet people who share my interests on that super-critical “geek” level.

I look forward to the next one and I definitely hope to see you and all those great folks again. smile

I think you make a very interesting point about geeks, or, well, at the very least you made me think about something about geeks that I’ve been meaning to write about. That is, almost everyone is a geek about something. That’s the whole idea of this site. If we think of the question, “What do you geek out about?” as another way of asking “What are you passionate about?” then that’s a question anyone can answer. And if we, as people, just sit and listen to things that other people are passionate about (like we all did at Crackskulls yesterday) then I think we expand ourselves exponentially by learning about new and cool things that we hadn’t really thought too hard about before.

Does any of that make sense? Basically, what I’m trying to say is, what I think all of us geeks are looking for are other people who are as passionate about what they’re passionate about as we are geeky about what we’re geeky about.

Hmm… not sure my thoughts are coming out quite right, but hopefully the gist of it is there.
