LOST: The Shape of Things to Come

Friday, April 11, 2008

Entertainment Weekly’s Jeff Jensen paid a visit to the set of Lost recently, and he’s back with all kinds of teasery goodness. DarkUFO has a good summary of the teasers up in his spoilers section. And, as if that weren’t enough, ABC released another sneak peek at the first post-break episode, “The Shape of Things to Come,” which I’ve included above.

I’ll save my thoughts on the teasers for below the fold because, while I consider them teasers and not spoilers, not every reader will necessarily agree with me. If you want to stay pure, stay out. If not, continue on.

Here are the teasers/spoilers, as summarized by DarkUFO, as well as my quick thoughts on each of them.

1) We will learn how the O6 leave the island
We sure as shit better learn this. This season has been all about the answers, and I’d be devastated if they left us hanging on this one.

As for how I think they got off the Island: check out the set-visit video at the end of Jensen’s article and tell me that the quickie shot of the sub doesn’t pique your curiosity. Maybe John didn’t blow it up after all, huh? Maybe Locke is going to play the part of savior.

2) What happens to those who stay behind
I actually kind of thought that this would be the cliffhanger. And maybe it still will be. But I do like the idea that we’ll get some idea of what happens to the rest of the Lostees.

3) Why Sayid is working for Ben
Well, we already know this, right? Because he thought with his heart instead of with his gun.

grin

Just kidding. Yeah, I’m pretty psyched to find out exactly why.

4) Who is in the coffin
My money is still on Michael, based on the blow-up version of Jack’s newspaper clipping that was floating around the Net after last season’s finale.

5) New “Game Changer” at end of this Season
My bet: no more flashes of any kind. The rest of the show will just alternate between the people on the island and the people trying to get back to it.

6) Episode 9 is a Ben Flash Forward
Awesome! The only thing better would have been a Ben flashback. We need to see more of Michael Emerson, man. I can’t get enough of this guy.

7) Smokey will appear and we will learn a “new dimension” of it
Why is “new dimension” in quotes? That is really driving me nuts. I love Smokey, and I’m dying to learn more. Damon and Carlton have promised that every time the monster appears from now on we’ll learn something more about it. I’m glad to hear that they’ll be living up to that promise.

8) A “major” and “mysterious” story line for Claire will begin, that setup the next few episodes and “years”!!
You mean they’re not just going to kill her? Color me disappointed.

9) Episode 10 is a Jack flash forward
If Episode 10 is a Jack flash forward, what is the finale going to be? I was under the impression that this was all leading toward a Jack flash forward in which we see what leads him to grow the beard and stuff. But maybe that’s this episode, and there’s still more flash forward future storyline to tell after that.

10) Only one flashback - Previous spoilers here reveal a potential Locke FB in episode 11
Ugh… We totally do not need to know more about John Locke.

11) We will see ALL 3 levels of the Orchid and learn about the time traveling (warping) abilities
The Orchid has three levels? Okay, Cool.

12) Penny, Richard and Abaddon all appear
Yay for more Penny and yay for more Richard. Abaddon, I’m not sure about. He creeps me out.

13) Daniel Faraday and Miles will have to wait until next season for more of their story
Does that mean that we are going to learn more about Charlotte and Lapidus? I really don’t care about Charlotte. Like, at all. But Lapidus background info could be cool.

14) Hurley will encounter Smokey
As long as Smokey doesn’t kill Hugo and replace him with a clone, I’m fine with this.

15) Finale Kiss will “complicate” the triangle
Sawyer kisses Juliet. That’s my bet. Or, well, that’s the first thing that popped into my mind. I don’t really have any money to bet anyway.

16) Sawyer will be involved in “frantic” gun battle
That’s just where Sawyer should be, man. That’s just where he should be.
