still photograph from HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE of Ginny Weasley (Bonnie Wright) arriving at a meeting of the Slug Club

Late last week I, like many a Harry Potter fan, was dismayed to learn that the sixth movie in the film franchise, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, had been moved from November 2008 to July 2009. The news as so sudden and so unexpected that even Entertainment Weekly was caught unaware, delivering their Fall Movie Issue with its Harry Potter-themed cover intact.

But, amidst all of this suck, there is still awesomeness. Take, for instance, the photograph of Ginny Weasley joining the Slug Club that I’ve embedded above. Or, if that doesn’t do it for you, check out the three articles Mugglenet’s posted in the last couple of days (1, 2, and 3) and feast your eyes on all the photo goodness there.

Yes, Half-Blood Prince being delayed is truly sucky news. But that just means that we get to enjoy eight more months of the hype machine!

photograph of director David Yates working with Dan Radcliffe (Harry) and Bonnie Wright (Ginny)

As I mentioned, way back in the third Geek Force FiveCast ever, Harry Potter was very nearly a member of my Geek Force Five. So, it should come as no surprise that I am good and thoroughly geeked out about the new batch of Half-Blood Prince promotional stills that popped up recently on The Leaky Cauldron. My favorite, which I’ve included above, shows us director David Yates planning a scene between Harry (Dan Radcliffe) and Ginny (Bonnie Wright). I don’t think I’ve mentioned this online before, but I once planned to write an essay on the relationship between these two characters and how it was telegraphed by Rowling from the very first book.

Yeah, I am an über-Potter geek.
