Spoil or Tease: How is Geek Force Five Doing on LOST Coverage?

Friday, August 29, 2008

As production on the fifth season of Lost ramps up this month, plenty of information is leaking out about exactly how The Powers That Be are going to pick things up from where they left off at the end of season four. And that’s got me wondering how Geek Force Five is doing when it comes to Lost coverage.

There is a fine line between “spoiler” and “teaser,” as far as I’m concerned. I always try to stick to the “teaser” side of that line, and to only veer into “spoiler” territory in articles that continue below the fold, thereby giving those who wish to stay pure a fair warning. But I think the problem with that fine line between “spoiler” and “teaser” is that individual fans draw it at different points in the sand. What I consider a “teaser” may be very much a “spoiler” to you.

So, I ask you: how am I doing? Have I spoiled things for you in the past? And, if so, what can I do to keep from spoiling you in the future? Or, have I struck just the right balance? In your opinion, what is the difference between a “spoiler” and a “teaser”? Let me know.

In the meantime, here’s a tease for you: DarkUFO’s spoilers site is reporting that we will see another unexpected visitor from season two in the upcoming season, and that “the overturned fuselage of a small Cessna-sized plane” will make an appearance in an early episode as well. Make of that what you will.

Lost Spoilers We Haven’t Seen Yet

Thursday, June 12, 2008

DarkUFO has an excellent piece on teases made by Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse that haven’t yet paid off. For example, they’ve promised lots more information on the late, great love of Hurley’s life, Libby. They’ve sworn that we’ll find out what the deal is with the four-toed statue. And they’ve said repeatedly that the French woman, Rousseau, was going to get a flashback, which isn’t looking likely after the events of the fourth season.

Does this mean that the producers of Lost have no idea what they’re doing? No, I don’t think so. I think these items are simply an example of how a story evolves as you’re telling it. Even when you know the ending, you can never be exactly sure how you’re going to get there.

Comment Moderation is On

Monday, May 19, 2008

Major spoilers for the Lost season finale have been leaked online, and it’s anticipated that the League of Assholes will soon be doing their best to spoil every single person they can, including all of you who do not want to be spoiled. In order to (hopefully) eliminate the chance of them spoiling the season finale for Geek Force Five readers, I am turning on comment moderation for the next week and a half. If your comments are slow to turn up on the site, that’s why. I’ll be personally checking through every comment before it goes live.

Geek Force FiveCast 008 (Video)

Wednesday, April 02, 2008

Today, Kaylee and I geek out about April Fools Day spoilers for Lost, one of which is supposedly true. These come from E!Online’s Kristin Dos Santos.

  1. One of the Freighters dies at the hands of Jack.
  2. There’s a whole underground city beneath the island, and that’s where the whispers come from.
  3. In a flashforward, Walt reveals the secrets of the Oceanic Six over the Internet.
  4. Walt is in the coffin.
  5. Juliet and Charlotte share a kiss.
  6. Desmond is not one of the Oceanic Six, but he is off the Island.
  7. Jin, Sawyer and Locke are alive on the Island in the future.
  8. Kate is pregnant.
  9. All of the “meat socks” (background survivors we have not yet met) will die by gassing.
  10. Juliet kills Claire.

So, which one do you think it is?
