Worth Your Consideration 016 - A GF5 Linkdump
- I’ve had the first episode of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles sitting unplayed on my Apple TV since about a week after its premiere (it was a free download on iTunes way back when), but this Newsarama piece on the show’s second season has piqued my interest, and I may have to finally sit down and devote an hour to the show now.
- Earlier this year, when Marvel Comics retconned Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson’s marriage with their back-to-back “One More Day” and “Brand New Day” events, they introduced a new red-headed super-heroine by the name of Jackpot. She looks like Mary Jane, talks like Mary Jane, and has named herself after one of MJ’s most famous catchphrases, but her secret identity has yet to be revealed. Newsarama reports that the mystery will end in an upcoming Amazing Spider-Man annual, but me, I already know who it is: the resurrected Gwen Stacy. Yep, you heard it here first. And the masked villain Menace? That’s the long-dead Uncle Ben, come back to life. If the fanboys hated Marvel editor-in-chief Joe Quesada before, I guarantee death threats this time around.
- Jason Kottke describes the anatomical drawings on this site as “part medical and part American Apparel advertisement” and he’s pretty much dead-on.
- And, lastly, Apple is giving me one more reason to enjoy trips up north to see my in-laws: an Apple Store in the Maine Mall. Stephanie may even be able to convince me to move up there now… Nah, probably not.

Ginny Weasley Joins the Slug Club - Tons of Half-Blood Prince Photos Arrive
Photo from Entertainment Weekly, originally scanned by Pipoca Combo
Late last week I, like many a Harry Potter fan, was dismayed to learn that the sixth movie in the film franchise, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, had been moved from November 2008 to July 2009. The news as so sudden and so unexpected that even Entertainment Weekly was caught unaware, delivering their Fall Movie Issue with its Harry Potter-themed cover intact.
But, amidst all of this suck, there is still awesomeness. Take, for instance, the photograph of Ginny Weasley joining the Slug Club that I’ve embedded above. Or, if that doesn’t do it for you, check out the three articles Mugglenet’s posted in the last couple of days (1, 2, and 3) and feast your eyes on all the photo goodness there.
Yes, Half-Blood Prince being delayed is truly sucky news. But that just means that we get to enjoy eight more months of the hype machine!
“Obama Said Knock You Out! I’m Gonna Knock You Out!”
Yesterday, somebody at the local Wal-Mart scrawled the words “Don’t Hold Your Breathe” [sic] on a slip of paper and stuck this note under the wiper of my friend Leslie’s car, just next to her Obama bumper sticker. I don’t think that Wal-Mart shopper had yet seen the photo I’ve included above, which is now making its way swiftly across the Internet. He looks like he’s one part Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson (doesn’t it look like he’s about to lay the smack down on John McCain’s candy ass?) and one part L.L. Cool J ("Obama says knock you out!"). I would not be messing with this man if I were the vast right-wing global conspiracy. NosireeBob.
Geek, Nerd, Dork: Which is Good? Which is Bad?
I’ve always found the word “geek” to be a term of endearment. A geek, to me, is someone who is passionate about something, to the point of ridiculousness, and who is totally willing to admit that. A “nerd,” to me, always signified someone who was a geek but tried to deny it. And a “dork” was just somebody who did something silly or stupid. You were only ever temporarily a “dork.”
But, this isn’t about me. This is about you! Tell the world, in the comments below, what the words geek, nerd, and dork mean to you.
New Hampshire Media Makers August 2008 Recap
This morning, I attended the fourth meeting of New Hampshire Media Makers, which was, in the words of organizer John Herman, “[a]n incredible gathering of new and old faces.” Not only did we have on hand almost all of the attendees from the inaugural meeting, which took place back on May 11 of this year, but we also managed to attract a slew of newer faces to the cozy front room of Crackskulls in Newmarket. Both Random Kitty and the official NHMM blog have full write-ups. Or, if you’re in need of something briefer and more audiovisually oriented, check out my Utterz post from the ride home.
My four-photo Flickr set is available here. More photos are available from Brian Turnbull and Rob Jaques.
If you’re a creative type in New Hampshire (or even northeastern Massachusetts), you should be attending this event. The next meeting will take place on Sunday, September 14. Each attendee is offered three minutes to pitch/advertise and/or to ask questions of the group. I know that I come out of the meeting every month feeling incredibly energized, and I can almost guarantee that you will too.
