Geek Force at PodCamp Boston 3 (PCB3)

I’m at PodCamp Boston 3 this weekend, representing the association I work for full-time, as well as me, the writer, and Geek Force Five, the site. And I’m having a blast. Here’s a shot of me playing pool at the afterparty, if you don’t believe me. That’s me, first from the left, right around the time that my second or third Smirnoff Ice suddenly (and awesomely) elevated my game.
You can mind more photos on Flickr by searching for the tag “pcb3,” which is also the tag to look for on Twitter, YouTube, Viddler, or wherever else you might want to look
If you’re not familiar with the concept of a PodCamp, here’s a pretty good quote from PodCamp Capetown:
PodCamp is a community driven UnConference for anybody and everybody in New Media. Whether you create and/or consume content by podcasting, listening, blogging, reading, producing video, watching and anything else that is New Media.
I’m not exactly in love with the term New Media, but that quote pretty much sums up what’s going on. If you’re following me on Twitter, I’m sure you’ve already seen some updates related to the big show. Keep following me throughout the weekend for more. And, if there’s a PodCamp in your area, and you’re at all interested in this kind of stuff, please do consider going. It has been well worth the price of admission, so far.
Oh, and one last thing: welcome to any and all who might be joining us thanks to my pimping out the site at PodCamp. Leave a message in the comments, if you’ve got a moment, and let the world know who would be in your Geek Force Five. That’s the traditional method of greeting around here.
Geek Force FiveCast 017 (Video)
This week, I geek out about Wine Library TV wristbands, ordering an iPhone 3G, and PodCamp Boston 3.

Can A Song Save Your Life? I Think So.
My friend Jon’s brilliant blog Songs That Saved Your Life returns from hiatus today with a great piece on Bob Dylan’s “Desolation Row”. In the piece, besides letting us know how this particular song has saved his life, Jon reminds his readers (and, perhaps, himself) why he started the site in the first place:
When I get right down to it, this is why I’m doing what I do with this site. Whether most of us realize it, or not, the choices we make about the art we involve ourselves in says something about who and what we are. Our aesthetic choices reflect our personalities—our dreams, desires, fears, regrets, and favorite brands of toothpaste—and they can leave a real impression of us for those that come after. You all have the opportunity to leave a tangible, historical record of your life to those that would listen. You really can say something about yourself with a good mix tape. You can tell us something about the people you loved, and the things that matter. All it takes is a moment of starting a record, being still, and telling a story.
And if you’re looking for someplace to share, allow me to share the good news that Songs accepts submissions.
Twittering “Two Weirdoes” (Crosspost)
[Cross-posted from the blog at echristopherclark.com]
I am very busy at the day job today, but on my breaks from work I’ll be twittering the entire text of “Two Weirdoes, a Shovel, and Lots of Open Land,” which I discussed on Making the Book the other day.
The Twitter version of “Two Weirdoes” starts here.
Half-Blood Prince Movie Stills
As I mentioned, way back in the third Geek Force FiveCast ever, Harry Potter was very nearly a member of my Geek Force Five. So, it should come as no surprise that I am good and thoroughly geeked out about the new batch of Half-Blood Prince promotional stills that popped up recently on The Leaky Cauldron. My favorite, which I’ve included above, shows us director David Yates planning a scene between Harry (Dan Radcliffe) and Ginny (Bonnie Wright). I don’t think I’ve mentioned this online before, but I once planned to write an essay on the relationship between these two characters and how it was telegraphed by Rowling from the very first book.
Yeah, I am an über-Potter geek.
These photos accompanied a “first look” USA Today article that appeared last week.
